About this icon
Saint Odile (c. 662–720), patron saint of Alsace, founded the abbey of Hohenbourg on the mountain that now bears her name. Born blind, she received her sight at her baptism; she is invoked for the healing of the eyes and traditionally shown as an abbess, holding a book and the abbess's staff.
